Michael Hawkins, C.A.T., C.H.T.
Michael, who has lived and practiced in Boulder, Colorado since 1991, is a jhana yogi in the "rogue" tradition of Ecstatic Buddhism. He is on the teaching faculty of the Great Western Vehicle, a support community that studies and follows the Buddha's voluminous meditation instructions as preserved in the Pali Canon. Michael's approach to meditation focuses on accessing bliss, joy and ecstasy as essential and reliable guides along the contemplative path -- so that we cannot wait to get back to the cushion.
Michael is also an astrologer, Tarot reader and dreamworker with a background in Jungian Archetypal Psychotherapy.
Sometimes thinking of himself as an "Astrological Archetypalist," Michael practices a form of archetypal astrology developed by the late Charles Bebeau (passed in early 2008), who was a direct student of Dane Rudhyar. He has recently begun to incorporate Evolutionary Astrology techniques into his readings, looking at karmic patterns extending into previous incarnations.
With the Tarot, he encourages reliance on intuition in reporting what the Cards are saying. Traditional meanings, while helpful and necessary for the professional reader, are of secondary importance. He stresses the imperative of forming an intimate relationship with the Cards, recognizing them as accurate and trustworthy expressions of synchronicity -- the language through which the universe writes our unfolding Book of Life.
Dreamwork along archetypal lines is especially well-suited to bring insights from astrology and Tarot alive, showing how human existence aligns with an alchemical unfoldment that encourages us to "embrace the descent." By removing the stigma of pathology from the natural patterns running through our lives, we unveil a depth of meaning that has gone dormant in the West for far too long.
Happily married, Michael spends a lot of time marveling over the fact that it is always the same moment. He enjoys cooking, sitting on the front porch, studying sacred writings from ecstatic mystics down through the ages, and walking. A more complete spiritual autobiography may be found here.
